Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB), where we are committed to providing quality education for all children in Zamfara State. Our goal is to ensure that every child has access to basic education, empowering them with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in society.
MANDATE & FUNCTIONS
Core Mandate of the Ministry:
- a) Management of Primary and Junior Secondary schools.
- b) Recruitment appointment, promotion and discipline of teaching and non-teaching staff on grade level of and above.
- c) Posting and deployment of staff including inter-state transfer
- d) Disbursement of funds provided to it from the federal, state and local government
source in accordance with agreed formula.
- e) Retirement and settlement of retirement of teaching and non-teaching staff
- f) Maintenance and rehabilitation of classroom/schools and other school infrastructure etc.
Primary Responsibilities/Functions:
- Management of primary and Junior secondary Schools
- Recruitment, appointment, promotion and discipline of teaching staff on grade level 07 and above
- Posting redeployment of staff including interstate transfer,
- Disbursement of funds provided to it from the Federal, State and Local Government source in accordance with agreed formula
- Setting up an effective functional supervisory unit
- Retirement and settlement of retirement benefit of teaching and non-teaching staff
- Renovation and undertaking of new capital projects;
- Approving for the training and re-training of teaching of teaching and non-teaching Staff
- Assessing and payment of salaries and allowances of teaching and non-teaching staff;
- Ensuring that annual reports are rendered by Education secretaries and Head of Schools
- Preparing testimonial and certificate of service for teaching and non-teaching staff;
- Dealing with leave matters including vacation
- Ensuring annual auditing of accounts
- Maintenance and rehabilitation of classroom/schools and other school infrastructure
- Physical/environment development in line with child friendly school initiative;
- Promoting partnership with and coordinating from donor agencies;
- Purchase and distribution of instructional materials and Equipment;
- Carryout mass mobilization and sensitization of the general public and entering into partnership with communities and all stakeholders on basic education with the aim of achieving overall objectives of the Universal Basic Education Program;
- Establish a Basic Education data bank and conduct research on basic education in the state;
- Co-ordinating and Supervising of teaching and learning in private primary schools and private primary schools and private junior secondary schools in the state;
- Present periodic progress reports on the implementation of the Universal Basic Education Program to the state Government.
- Performing such other functions as may be assigned to the board by the state Government or UBE commission
Objectives:
- To increase enrollment and retention rates in primary and junior secondary schools.
- To enhance the quality of teaching and learning through professional development for educators.
- To promote inclusive education that caters to the needs of all children, including those with disabilities.
- To ensure the provision of adequate educational resources and facilities.
- To foster community involvement in the education sector.
- Providing free, Universal Basic Education for every Nigerian Child of School age;
- Developing in the entire citizenry a strong consciousness for education and a strong commitment to its vigorous promotion;
- Reducing drastically the incidence of drop-out from the formal school system;
- Ensuring the acquisition of appropriate level of literacy, numeracy; communicative and life skills;
- Preserving and complementing the existing educational structure, bodies and agencies for the purpose of realizing the Board’s mission; and
- Carrying out the policy guidelines prescribed by Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and other relevant agencies as approved by the State Government.

- School Feeding Program: To improve student attendance and nutrition.
- Teacher Training Workshops: To enhance the skills and competencies of educators.
- Community Engagement Initiatives: To involve parents and local communities in educational activities.
- Digital Literacy Programs: To equip students with essential technology skills.
Projects:
- Construction of New Classrooms: To accommodate increasing student enrollment.
- Renovation of Existing Schools: To provide a conducive learning environment.
- Provision of Learning Materials: To ensure students have access to textbooks and other educational resources.
Scholarship Programs: To support underprivileged students in pursuing their education
